ARTIST STATEMENT
伊藤 ケイ かおるは、カンザスウェスリアン大学を2008年5月卒業。グラフィックデザインを専攻し、学士号を取得。作品の中に「物語を創り出す」ことは、ケイのデザイン過程には欠かせない。彼女の「物語」には、登場人物等はそれほど多くなく、複雑な話はない。「物語」はとてもはっきりしていて、わかり易いのが特徴で、見た者の興味を引きつける。人々の驚き、興奮、喜びが、彼女の創作活動の大きな原動力である。 埼玉県に生まれ、生後6ヶ月で群馬県伊勢崎市へ移住。2003年に渡米。2004年に、カンザス州サライナ市にある、カンザスウェスリアン大学に入学し、グラフィックデザインを専攻する。在学中に、その成績が認められ、Alpha Chi大学奨学金機構のメンバーとなる。サライナシンフォニー後援会のメンバーとしても活動していた。 ケイのこれまで手がけたデザインとして、サライナユースシンフォニーのクリスマスコンサートポスター、バイオリングループレスン及び2007-2010年度オーディションポスターとパンフレット。カンザスウェスリアン大学主催のオペラ「Cavalleria Rusticana」、「Pirates of Penzence」、「Marriage of Figaro」、「Hansel & Gratel」等ポスター、パンフレット作成。その他2008-2009年クリスマスコンサートポスターを作成。在学中、カンザスウェスリアン大学学生アート展では、2006年に実力を認められ、「Merit Award」を受賞し、2007年「Juror's Merit Award」、2008年「Faculty Merit Award」を受賞。 2007年8月から2008年4月までサライナアートセンターでインターングラフィックデザイナーとして経験を積む。彼女の手がけたものとして、アートセンターで開催された展覧会、各イベントのポスター、招待状、広告、バーナー、パンフレット等がある。Jilka for U.S. Congress Officeでもデザイン全般を手がけていた。
Kaoru Kay Ito received a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design from Kansas Wesleyan University in May 2008. Storytelling is an important component of much of Kay's work. Graphically and artistically, her “stories” most frequently contain fewer, rather than more, “characters”, therefore keeping these narratives very uncomplicated to the viewer. In Kay's work, her message is clear and very accessible. Through her art, Kay gains pleasure by surprising, exciting and providing enjoyment to her audience. Kay was born in Saitama, Japan. She came to the United States in 2003, and since 2004 has been enrolled as a Graphic Design student at Kansas Wesleyan University. Kay is a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society, and a member of the Salina Symphony Guild. Some of Kay's graphic design projects include: the Salina Youth Symphony Christmas Concert poster, the Violin Group Lesson Brochure, and the 2007 - 2010 Audition Brochure. She also produced the Cavalleria Rusticana Opera poster and the Christmas by Candlelight poster for Kansas Wesleyan University. Kay was awarded Kansas Wesleyan University's Student Art Show Merit Award in 2006, the Student Art Show Juror's Merit Award in 2007 and the Student Art Show Faculty Merit Award in 2008. Since August 2007, Kay has been working as a graphic design intern at the Salina Art Center. Some of her design projects there have included promotional materials for Salina Art Center exhibitions and special events. Kay has produced posters, invitations, flyers, banners and brochures for these events. Currently, She is working for Jilka for U.S. Congress Office as Campaing Director Assistant (P.A.)/ Graphic Designer.
